Inferno! Ultra Modern IDP Camp Burnt To Ashes In Plateau State

The sad incident was relayed by Mr Bintan Wuyep, Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Plateau Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to reporters in Jos today.
The director also disclosed to reporters that the level of destruction done by the fire is yet to be known as a result of lack of money to sponsor personnel that would help determine that.

A sad day it was on Tuesday at Shendam Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau as the recently built ultra-modern Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp
was gutted by fire.
Information gathered by Nigeria News revealed that the camp was donated to the Plateau State Government by the Presidential Committee on Flood, Relief, and Rehabilitation.
It should be recalled that the committee was constituted shortly after the 2012 flood disaster which was experienced by over 20 states across the country.
In the words of Wuyep, “We don’t have funds even to fuel our vehicle to go to the camp to ascertain the cause of the inferno and assess the extent of the damage.”
“We have gone everywhere even for a loan, but we have not succeeded. “Hence, we cannot give the exact level of damage caused by the sad incident”.
Wuyep revealed that the main purpose of building the IDP camp was to help accommodate people that may be displaced from their abode in future within the state.
He noted that the incident was a serious loss to the government of Plateau State as he went further to tell the reporters who were present that the notification of the incident has been sent to SEMA and the Presidential Committee that built the camp.
He also relayed the response of the committee, he said: “The committee told us to assess the damage and formally write a report informing them of the cause and extent of the damage.” “But like I said earlier, we are constrained by lack of funds.”
He however begged the  State Government make necessary and adequate provisions for the agency in order for it to perform its duties well.
He also appreciated the efforts of the Plateau State lawmakers in order to determine what actually led to the fire outbreak in the camp.
